Dr. Huddleston had a strong interest in medicine from an early age. Both of his parents and brother are nurses, and his grandfather was a family physician in Bridgeport, Texas. “I saw how my parents and grandfather truly cared for their patients, and knew from a young age I wanted to dedicate my life to helping others” he says. “Knowing that I can have a positive effect on a patient’s life is incredibly fulfilling.”
In medical school, Dr. Huddleston gravitated almost immediately toward urology. One of the leaders of his small group was a urologist, and after learning more about the field he was hooked. He was attracted to the variety of cases urologists manage—everything from treating enlarged prostates and kidney stones to performing big, open surgeries.
He honed his skills during his urology residency at Indiana University. There Dr. Huddleston learned from leaders in urologic oncology, minimally invasive surgery, reconstructive surgery, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and kidney stones. He received extensive training in robotic surgical techniques to address kidney and prostate issues, minimally invasive surgery for kidney stones, and specialized BPH treatments—including holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP, a minimally invasive treatment to remove tissue blocking urine flow through the prostate).
One of Dr. Huddleston’s highest priorities is fostering a positive environment for his patients. He understands the vital role trust plays in building good relationships with the people who entrust him with their care. “Educating my patients, helping guide them through all their options, and providing them with high-quality treatment are of the utmost importance to me” he explains. “My focus is always on delivering exemplary care for my patients.”
While in medical school, Dr. Huddleston was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society, coveted accolades bestowed on individuals recognized for demonstrating the qualities at the very heart of patient-centered care—integrity, excellence, compassion, altruism, respect and empathy.
When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Huddleston enjoys spending time with his wife (an allergist) and his young son, playing with his golden retriever, traveling, hiking, golfing and spending time with extended family.
